I think of slow travel a lot like scuba diving: when you're underwater, it is not about going as fast as possible because you'll tire too quickly and use up all your air. The goal is to go as slow as possible so you can stay underwater for as long as possible. The longer you're down there, the better chance you have of encountering a truly wonderful creature swim by.
Slow travel is not ticking off landmarks like you're running out of time.
Nope, you're there to chew the scenery, taste the streets, savour the people.
Slow travel is being somewhere long enough you can argue about football teams you'd never heard of before arriving.
Slow travel is being somewhere long enough that the 24-hour noodle shop on the corner knows your favourite bowl of goodness at two in the morning.
But mostly, slow travel is being somewhere long enough, you know you'll leave a bit of yourself there when it is inevitably time to move on.
